The people of Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano-South District in the Ashanti Region have welcomed their reprimanded District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Gabriel Barimah, back to post.
The reinstatement of the ‘Tweaa’ DCE was announced by a statement signed by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Julius Debrah.
Mr Barimah, alongside two others — Mr Issah Zakariah, Yendi Municipality and Mr Mohammed Dramani, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District — were renominated by the President. In separate interviews, a number of residents who spoke to the Daily Graphic at Mankranso, the district capital of Ahafo- Ano-South, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, for bringing the DCE back to office.
The residents described the DCE as supportive, benevolent and outstanding since he assumed office.
They, however, advised that the DCE become more cautious henceforth in his relationship with the public, especially with the media, in order to avert any future distasteful occurrences.
Background
Mr Barimah was removed from office in March this year after making uncomplimentary comments at a public function at Mankranso, where he was the special guest. He showed misconduct for leaving the gathering in anger for somebody using the Akan taunt tweaa, to spite him.
Till today, nobody knows the one who said “Tweaa” but how he went about it did not go down well with the government, and he was consequently cautioned by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to be of good behaviour.
